The full name of CCTV is closed-circuit television. It was first utilized by "Siemens AG" in Peenemude, Germany in order to observe launching of rocket. It is used to convey a signal in a particular place. Closed-circuit television camera is different from the broadcast camera. Broadcast camera is openly transmitted, whereas it is connected from one signal to another. Closed-circuit camera is often used by the airports, casinos, banks, shopping centers and military installations. CCTV equipment helps to survey the processes from a central room. Videotelephony is also termed as closed-circuit television. Video usually means distance visualization. Therefore, it can be said that videoteleophony named as closed-circuit camera is used for distance vision. It was produced for the human protection.
The basic CCTV system can be divided into three components: A camera, a monitor and a time lapse recording mechanism (usually a DVR (Digital Video Recorder)). Another quality to consider is the camera's resolution. Just as in digital cameras and computer monitors, resolution refers to the quality or the sharpness of the picture you'll receive. You can determine the resolution by the cameras TVL datum. TVL stands for TV Lines, and the higher the value, the better the quality. The average security camera has about 600 TVL. The market now offers IP cameras which go by Megapixels, for the clearest picture available. Make sure that the monitor you're using has a compatible resolution. Be sure to consult a professional before making this decision.
We advise to carefully check your security needs before buying a video surveillance system. Think of places around the house or yard that you can't control by sight. Remember that the camera's function is to replace your presence in sensitive areas. You should also take into account your own interactions with the camera. Will it be attached to a computer? Will you monitor the house 24/7? Or will you simply record using a Digital Video Recorder and then view the tapes after something happens.
Determine exactly what your viewing needs are, and which functions you expect the camera to serve. If you're interested in intimidating burglars, you might consider buying very large and conspicuous cameras. You could also mix-in a number of dummy cameras as part of your security arrangement. Another idea is to put a security yard sign informing that the house is monitored around the clock. If you are concerned that large intimidating cameras might make people uncomfortable, consider using smaller cameras or hidden ones.

A network video recorder (NVR) is a software program that records video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, SD memory card or other mass storage device. An NVR contains no dedicated video capture hardware. However, the software is typically run on a dedicated device, usually with an embedded operating system. NVRs are often mistakenly called DVRs probably because both NVR and DVR are software applications popularly used for recording videos in digital formats to storage media.
NVRs are similar to DVRs but with several distinct differences. An NVR's video input is from a network, as opposed to a direct connection to a video capture card or tuner. The main distinction being video on a DVR is encoded and processed at the DVR, while video on an NVR is encoded and processed at the camera, then streamed to the NVR for storage or remote viewing.
DVR is the main engine of CCTV security systems while NVR is the main engine behind any IP video surveillance systems. However, there are hybrid NVR/DVR security systems which incorporate functions of both NVR and DVR. They are usually referred to as NVRs as well. It allows you to save special events you have recorded and edit them easily. Hard drives are smaller and more convenient to maintain than VCRs. Video tapes tend to deteriorate quickly, recording quality declines rapidly and you'll constantly be spending money on new cassettes. Controlling the DVR is simple and it offers you a variety of recording speeds. Monitoring software could always be updated and you can always add more memory space. Theoretically DVRs can record for weeks on end, depending of course on memory, recording quality and speed.
